Okay, so when I was approached to write this bio for Eric Decetis, I honestly didn’t
want to take the job at first. After all, the situations he has put me in have been pretty ruff...
I’m sorry,
let me first introduce myself. I’m Frank, otherwise known as the dog that um, I’ll put this as delicately
as I can, had to take the brunt of my owner’s gas problem. Grrr, everyone always tries to blame it on the
dog! There was no way that was going to happen this time. Granted, this guy had to do it for the sake of the joke,
but I mean come on, I lost half my fur on that one! Nonetheless, I guess I’m honored that he chose me for that
card... after all everyone knows who I am now.
Wow, sorry people, I am a canine,
so I do tend to get sidetracked easily. But here we go... Eric Julius “Jay” Decetis was born to a Roman
Catholic Family on Mother’s Day in 1952 and almost immediately out of the womb, began showing an interest in drawing.
After working a variety of jobs such as a door-to-door home fire alarm salesman, and a hospital respiratory therapist, Eric
decided to take his cartooning to the next level. For nearly two decades his work has appeared globally in publications
spanning diverse tastes from The National Lampoon to Los Angeles Magazine. Winner of the Seventh Annual Greeting Card
Association’s Award for his “Lost Puppy” cartoon (thank God I wasn’t used for that one), Eric was
voted Sacramento Magazine’s Best Local Cartoonist in 2000. It was when he broke into the greeting card industry
that his “public portfolio” really began to grow.
Aside from an immense collection of cards and gift
products, this year also introduces the NEW slide cards which take his single-panel cartoons to the next level. I also
make another appearance in one of these new cards... whew!... the lengths I will go to for his art!! Anyway, I have to go
pick-up Stacey, this year’s catalog cover girl. We’ve got a hot date at the local hydrant.
Enjoy
the site!
